Who is God
From the Christian perspective, God is the eternal, all-powerful, and all-knowing Creator of the universe, who is deeply personal and lovingly involved with His creation. Central to Christian theology is the Trinity, which defines God as one Being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
God the Father is seen as the source of all life and the ultimate authority over creation. He is depicted as a loving and caring parent to His creation, desiring a relationship with humans and providing for their needs. The Bible speaks of His nature in 1 John 4:8, stating, "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." This scripture emphasizes that God’s essence is characterized by love, defining all His actions and purposes.
God the Son, Jesus Christ, is God incarnate, the Savior of humanity who came to Earth, lived a human life, died, and rose again to redeem the human race from sin. This redemptive act bridges the gap between God and mankind, offering eternal life to all who believe. John 3:16 underscores this: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Lastly, the Holy Spirit is the presence of God living within believers, guiding, comforting, and empowering them for righteous living and service. Acts 1:8 says, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses..." This scripture highlights the transformative and empowering role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers.
Together, these understandings of God reflect a being who is both transcendent, surpassing all human understanding, and immanent, present in the intimate details of individual lives. Christians believe that knowing God brings purpose, peace, and eternal hope.
